The Athenee Hotel celebrates another milestone by being recognized for protecting guests and associates staying and dining in the hotel. In addition to the many good causes and initiatives supported by the hotel recently, the hotel has now been announced as the first hotel in Thailand to receive the Safety & Health Administration (SHA) certificate.
Issued by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the SHA certificate is given to hotels taking measures to ensure the highest standards on cleanliness, hygiene and social distancing for its community.
Prior to SHA certification, The Athenee Hotel has just received a certification “Thai Stop COVID-19 by Department of Health” (for safety and hygiene) on the section – Meeting and Hotel from Department of Health – Thailand.
The hotel has remained operational throughout these difficult times to support the community and will soon be fully open with accommodation, all restaurants, meeting rooms and leisure facilities like the resort style swimming pool all ready for guests to enjoy in a safe environment.
“We commend The Athenee Hotel for its absolute diligence in implementing safety measures that will protect its guests and add to confidence amongst local and international travellers that Thailand is a safe country,” said TAT Governor – Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn. ““Ensuring high health and safety standards will be one of the key criteria for Thai tourism to establish its competitive advantage in the recovery period. The desire to travel will remain strong, but when it actually comes to the decision-making time, visitors will opt for those destinations where they feel confident about their personal safety” He said.
The TAT is working closely with the public and private sectors in the introduction and awarding of its new Amazing Thailand Safety & Health Administration certification.
Partners include the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Board of Trade of Thailand, Federation of Thai Spa and Wellness Association, Thai Retailers Association, Thai Hotels Association, Association of Domestic Travel, Thai Amusement and Leisure Park Association, Thai Restaurant Association, Thai Spa Association, Thai Boats Association, and Event Management Association.
Ms ChooLeng Goh, general manager of The Athenee Hotel, said that the devising and implementation of the safety and health measures had been a joint effort that involved every member of the hotel management and staff, with close collaboration between the relevant public sector bodies and private partners and associates.
“We are very proud indeed to receive this SHA certification, because it reflects upon every single member of the team and it is tangible proof that we are a safe hotel that puts the safety, health, welfare and comfort of our guests and associates first,” she said.
“We have remained open because we have been able to implement very stringent guidelines, our restaurants are catering to in-house guests and local residents, and our meeting facilities are set up for the new normal in social distancing and with less capacity.
“Our commitment to guests, staff and associates is total, as we are all in this together.”
The Athenee Hotel, as among thousands applying for SHA certification, had to meet a TAT checklist of very stringent measures. For more information of the areas of measurement, visit: https://thailandsha.tourismthailand.org/landing
Ms Goh says that The Athenee Hotel is now seeing movement in the domestic market and is more than ready to receive guests from overseas with the resumption of international flights.
