After over 18 months, the first direct flight to Phuket from Australia landed on Wednesday, 8 December.
Traditional Thai dancers, airport staff, tourism authorities and our Consul-General in Phuket, Matt Barclay, was on hand to greet the many Australians who took part in the historic recommencement of direct flight services.
The flight follows the novel route of departing Sydney, stopping in Phuket then flying onward to Bangkok. Demand is already looking strong and will hopefully grow further in coming months.
These are the first of many flights that will connect Thailand’s Andaman region with Australia. Jetstar services from Sydney and Melbourne will recommence in mid-January 2022 and Thai’s flight destinations will hopefully expand over coming months.
