Bumrungrad Hospital – Alzheimer’s Awareness Month: Reduce Risk Factors

For three decades, Alzheimer’s research has explored the irreversible brain disorder affecting millions globally, gradually impairing memory and cognition. While no cure exists yet, research has revealed insights into its causes and symptom management.

The latest advancement is the Anti-amyloid injection, stemming from the knowledge that Alzheimer’s might be connected to the accumulation of toxic proteins in the brain, called Amyloid. However, its effectiveness is limited to early stages with significant side effects. Therefore, detecting and intervening early for Alzheimer’s prevention are vital.

Key Alzheimer’s risk factors?

  • Age
  • Head injury
  • Bad sleep quality (reduce ability to wash out toxic proteins in the brain)
  • Limited education level
  • Bad hydration (recommended 1.5 to 2L daily)
  • No regular exercise
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Less social activities
  • Metabolic disease (high blood pressure/cholesterol…)
