Message From Chamber – October 2024

Frank Holtzer

Dear AustCham Members,

September / October 2024 has once again seen many interesting and diverse events.

Aust Trade – Trade missions

Over the past month, we’ve had the exceptional opportunity to participate in two significant Austrade missions. The first, focused on sustainability, saw an additional 30 attendees at our events, providing us with valuable chances to deepen connections with businesses linking Thailand and Australia in the sustainability sector. The following week, we engaged in the Southeast Asia Business Mission and engaged with various representatives. This mission offered insights into Australia’s 2040 initiatives for Southeast Asia and prompted us to consider how our chamber can support the Australian government’s efforts in the region. Both missions presented outstanding networking opportunities and allowed us to align our chamber’s activities with broader Australian objectives in Southeast Asia, particularly in sustainability and business development.

October Sundowners – Trade missions

The October Sundowners event reached full capacity, welcoming over 300 attendees. This landmark occasion marked the first formal gathering for One Bangkok, proving to be a resounding success. The members’ briefing, featuring presentations from JLL, One Bangkok, and Meinhardt, drew such interest that it became standing room only. Attendees gained valuable insights into global sustainable development practices. The Sundowners’ portion of the evening was particularly well received, attracting numerous newcomers and first-time participants. We were also pleased to host numerous delegates from the Austrade Sustainability Mission, adding to the event’s significance. Overall, this glorious event highlighted strong attendance and engagement, setting a positive precedent for future gatherings.

AFL Grand Final

The AFL Grand Final was a resounding success, hosting over 500 guests. The occasion was truly magnificent, and I was particularly pleased with the winning team’s victory. Every aspect of the event ran smoothly, from advertising and setup to marketing, ticketing, catering, and the MCs. The day was filled with countless smiling faces and satisfied attendees. It also provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow Australians from the Bangkok community who might not typically attend Sundowners or other AustCham events, Special thanks to Mariott Marquis for the amazing venue and service.

Next Gen TED Talk

This month, we celebrated another successful Next Gen TED Talk, an inspiring evening made possible by Asset World Corp, who generously provided the venue on the 53rd floor of Empire Tower. The breathtaking views complemented our engaging speakers, creating an ideal backdrop for our Next Gen members to network.

SME Coffee Morning

We also hosted an intimate yet impactful SME coffee morning. Our gratitude goes to Gary Woollacott, former AustCham President, for guiding the discussions. Additionally, we organized a breakfast briefing focused on visa and tax essentials.

Sponsor Cocktail Event

AustCham Sponsor Cocktail event at the Ambassador’s residence saw a coming together of AustCham Sponsors, Australian and Thai representatives from government agencies and business community.

As we move into November, we are excited about our upcoming events, including Sundowners in Bangkok and Phuket.
Your continued support and participation in AustCham activities is much appreciated.

Warm regards,
