Laguna Phuket Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Relations

“Developing Sustainable Communities”

Laguna Phuket is a community nestled within a community — a network of hotels, properties, restaurants, services and leisure facilities – providing a wealth of jobs and a complete lifestyle for local, regional and international guests.

In delivering its services, Laguna turns back profits into a strong ethically motivated focus on socially responsible business that touches all stakeholders in our quest to deliver environmental and social benefits alongside increasing economic performance.

Since its establishment in 1984, which began with the rehabilitation of Bangtao Bay — once a tin mine and declared by United Nations Development Program as: “too environmentally damaged to have any development potential,” — Laguna Phuket has continued to safeguard its natural environment, cultural heritage, and promote a shared prosperity.

While Laguna Phuket has continuously supported associates with fair employment and well-rounded benefits, it has also maintained a commitment to communities through community relations and CSR efforts.

Our CSR programs & Community Relations are categorized under the following focus areas:

  1. Cultural Diversity
  2. Social Equity
  3. Educational Empowerment
  4. Health & Sports Promotion
  5. Environmental Preservation

Our signature program is “Seedlings F&B Internship Program”

Seedlings is the training and social enterprise restaurant under Banyan Tree’s group-wide mentorship programme with the aim to provide training and job opportunities for disadvantaged local youths, giving them the necessary life skills to forge successful careers in hospitality. Seedlings serves as a launching platform for local youth development in collaboration with non-government, not-for-profit organisations, providing invaluable vocational skills and experience.

The program is designed for disadvantaged and marginalized local youths aged between 18 – 25 years old, under the following criteria:

  1. Youthful indiscretions
  2. Interrupted education
  3. Poverty
  4. Victims of serious crime
  5. Physically disabled

The 12-month program is divided into two phases:

Phase 1            10-month F&B skills training at Angsana and Banyan Tree

Phase 2            2-month working experience in restaurant at Seedlings Café

Seedlings program is developed and managed by Laguna Resorts & Hotels PLC.

Restaurant operations and training are facilitated by Banyan Tree Phuket and Angsana Laguna Phuket. Curriculum consultation and endorsement by Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus.

Since October 2014, 90 interns have joined Seedlings Internship Program. 47 interns have graduated, 22 interns were employed at our property and 6 people are working at Seedlings restaurant (as of November 2019).

Seedlings Phuket restaurant is located in the heart of Laguna Phuket, situated at Laguna Holiday Club Resort, opens daily from 06.30 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. for all day dining, serving Phuket, Asian and Western dishes.
