7 MAR – TAAN Bangkok x Chef Sawada of Ki Izakaya: A Thai-Japanese Culinary Harmony

Friday, March 7, 2025

Bangkok, Thailand – TAAN Bangkok is proud to announce an extraordinary four-hands collaboration with Chef Sawada from Ki Izakaya at Sindhorn Kempinski. On 7th March 2025, guests will be treated to an immersive dining experience that unites Thai and Japanese flavors in a way that is both meaningful and memorable.

This exclusive event is more than a fusion of two cuisines—it is a celebration of respect for ingredients, maximizing their potential, and promoting sustainability. With Chef Thep of TAAN and Chef Sawada of Ki Izakaya at the helm, the evening promises to be a true meeting of minds, cultures, and flavors.

A Celebration of Culinary Diplomacy

The TAAN x Ki Izakaya collaboration is a testament to the deep culinary traditions of Thailand and Japan. More than just a meal, this event is an exchange of ideas and flavors, highlighting the artistry of Thai spices harmonizing with Japanese umami.

Sake, or nihonshu, has been crafted in Japan for over 1,000 years and is an integral part of Japanese rituals, celebrations, and dining culture. It pairs exceptionally well with bold and spicy Thai dishes, such as grilled meats (kai yang) and som tum. In contrast, Thailand’s own rice-based beverage, Sato, offers a sweeter, more rustic charm. The juxtaposition of these two beverages reflects the broader philosophy of the event—bringing together refinement and warmth, elegance and vibrancy, in perfect balance.

A Multi-Course Journey Through Thai and Japanese Cuisine

Guests at TAAN will embark on a sophisticated and thoughtfully curated dining journey, featuring a menu that highlights the chefs’ expertise and creativity. Each dish is designed to showcase modern techniques while honoring the authenticity of both culinary traditions. Signature creations will be inspired by the chefs’ hometowns and personal culinary stories, creating a dining experience that blends innovation with deep-rooted heritage.

At Ki Izakaya, the experience will take on a lively, interactive dimension, balancing fine dining sophistication with a casual, energetic atmosphere. Exclusive menus at each venue will celebrate the distinct culinary philosophies of the chefs while offering unique, complementary experiences.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Collaboration

Both Chef Thep and Chef Sawada are deeply committed to sustainability. By sourcing locally and supporting small-scale farmers and producers, they ensure that every ingredient used in the collaboration is both fresh and responsibly chosen. Their shared philosophy emphasizes honoring ingredients in their purest form, enhancing flavors without overpowering their natural essence.
