Message From Chamber – May 2024

Jon Cannon

“Dear AustCham Members,

As we enter the middle of the year (it’s hard to believe it’s already June), we take a moment to reflect on the activities of May.

We kicked off the month with a wonderful Sundowners event at the Sofitel Sukhumvit. The venue and food and beverage offerings received excellent feedback. The member briefing, organized by the Australian Embassy, focused on trade and Australian relationships. There is dedicated effort being made to collaborate with the Embassy in understanding and addressing the challenges faced by Australian businesses in Thailand. The Trade Team is working on advocacy initiatives to overcome these challenges, which is also linked to the revitalization of the FCA (Foreign Chamber Alliance). Recently, our treasurer, Matt, and Khun Chaiwat met with the Australian Embassy to further discuss the ‘Five to Thrive’ initiative. Donnah and I also attended a meeting with the American, British, and German Chambers, along with the Ambassadors, to discuss the FCA and the ‘Five to Thrive’.

Our May Bangkok Sundowners event was sponsored by Bangkok Hospital, and our returning education sponsors, Nurture Higher Education. They also both sponsored our Phuket Sundowners event, along with Lady Pies and the Phuket News held at the Angsana Laguna Phuket, which was a great venue. I had the opportunity to attend and meet our members from the southern region, gathering feedback on how we can best support them. Later this year, we plan to bring our Advocacy team to Phuket to listen to our members and address any challenges they may face.

We closed out the month with our Next Gen event, hosted at Aesop’s Bangkok. It was a fantastic evening delving into the topics of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, aimed at helping the next generation navigate their professional journeys. Additionally, we have launched our Next Gen Pricing, which caters to different stages of one’s career.

June is shaping up to be another remarkable month, with some exciting events on the horizon. We look forward to seeing you next week at the Oriental Residence Bangkok.

Regards,

Jon Cannon
