WHO WE ARE
The Phuket Hotels Association is a non-profit organization formed in January 2016, representing a body of 74 leading international and local hotel brands in Phuket. We celebrate the island’s diversity of natural beauty and its vibrant culture, while also providing educational scholarships to Phuket’s future hoteliers. We also focus on environmental and sustainability initiatives to raise awareness of the issues of our planet while working with our hotel operators to reduce plastic, food waste and other ideas aimed at making a difference.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
We are now introducing a new community-based green initiative, being the first Thai student activity learning facility which focuses on delivering an Environmental & Sustainability education program with a hands-on workshop for local kids. Our aim is to create an eco-friendly environment where local kids can participate in sustainability experiences and educational workshops based around recycled plastic while having some fun. We call this the GREEN PLANET LEARNING HUB, which will feature a green learning centre/workshop curriculum catered for Thai students (ages between 8-15 years old) as a first step. Workshops are conducted in Thai language for up to 40 Thai students at no cost for participation. We aim to educate 5,000 Thai children per year at our Green Planet Learning Hub, providing them with hands-on experience in a sustainability learning centre where they will gain first-hand experience in composting, water treatment, organic farming activities and practical ways for them to reduce plastic at home. The Green Planet Learning Hub is a grass-roots educational facility that will set the benchmark for Phuket community action in sustainability. Our fun classroom activity learning and education centre will deliver the sessions in Thai language. This personalized eco-curriculum will be aimed at raising awareness and delivering education on sustainability and the environment.

The Green Planet Learning Hub is a grassroots educational facility to set the benchmark for Phuket community action in sustainability. It will be a classroom activity learning and education centre where children can experience first-hand eco-activities. Delivered in the Thai language, the personalized eco-curriculum will be aimed at raising awareness and delivering education on sustainability and the environment.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We have secured the generous support from Blue Tree, who have kindly provided the learning space. In order to complete the fit-out of our Green Planet Learning Hub, and to provide teachers and facilitators, we need support from you and your organisation. The Green Planet Learning Hub endeavours to open in May or June 2020 and we are looking to raise approx. 3.2 million baht through donations and crowdsourcing.
HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT
In addition to giving back to the community and help educate kids to take action in protecting their own Island, the Green Planet Learning Hub will present an excellent opportunity to put your name on this, Phuket’s very first project of this kind. All stakeholders will also be involved in facilitating Southeast Asia’s largest annual green hospitality event, The Phuket Hotels for Islands Sustaining Tourism (PHIST) being help again in September at Angsana.
